The project’s main objective was to respect the formal and environmental quality of the old town of Manresa.
The façade incorporates some elements of the existing buildings to preserve the character of the area, such as fragmentation, the use of three window gap typology (terraces, balconies and windows), and the coronation of the building with a pronounced cornice, which draws a variable height within the same building placing it in relation to the rest of the street context.
The modulation in parallel walls imposes an order in plan that connects to the surrounding plots and camouflages the change of scale of the intervention.
The introduction of the courtyard allows illumination to the west for the Barreres St. dwellings, and also grants crossed ventilation in all of them. A single vertical core serves all the houses; this translates into surface and resources economy, and enables a common meting point with a single access to the future plaza.
